I’ve spent the last week in bear country. Everywhere you go there are signs giving warnings, telling you what to do and what not to do. Don’t leave food out. Carry bear spray. Travel in groups. Don’t go off the trail. Now these are all things that you are to do before you actually meet a bear. You do everything you can to avoid the encounter. But when you actually meet a bear, the rules change. There’s no more avoidance. For most of us, our proclivity would then be to run. Get out of the way of danger. Flee the scene as fast as you can.
When I think of the word holiness, I tend in one of two directions - either thoughts of our perfect Savior or thoughts of perfect actions. In both scenarios, it seems out of reach for my own life, like I’m chasing the wind. This weekend we are continuing in our series Unstoppable, looking at holiness as worship. As we enter into this topic, we need to be clear about what holiness is and isn’t. Let’s start with what it is not.
I’m excited to start our new series UNSTOPPABLE on worship. One of the things we will be discussing is the best situations to be vulnerable in. Many of us struggle with not being vulnerable enough or with being a 24/7 vulnerable shop, open for business. Both of these scenarios lead to pain, if not addressed. There is a right way to vulnerability.
